One of the chief attractions of Macau that needs to be spoken of more is the luxurious, evolved and yet within means spa scene at the big hotel chains. One of my favourite hotels in the city is the Conrad Macao. Located in the heart of Cotai strip, this luxury hotel is non imposing and gives you the space to be relaxed and easy.
I recently visited the Bodhi Spa at Conrad Macao housed in the hotel and tried their collagen smoothing facial and the precious milk bath.
AMBIENCE & FACILITIES
The elevator doors of level three of Conrad open up to the luxurious and sprawling Bodhi Spa. Occupying an area of over 1300 sqm., Bodhi Spa has ten spa suites, a reflexology lounge and a hair salon. Continually awarded, the Bodhi Spa Macau has won the 2015 Forbes Travel Four Star award and the best luxury day spa 2015 by World Luxury Spa Awards.
The receptionist greeted me in a courteous and confident manner. She guided me to the private consultation area (a rarity even in luxury spas), handed me the spa menu me and left me alone to relax and sip on the aromatic Osmanthus tea.
I was joined by the guests relations officer who enquired about my specific needs, allergies and then helped me choose my treatments. As my face was in need in for some intense nurturing intervention, I chose the collagen smoothing facial. I opted to precede this by a bathing ritual that would help me unwind, shed the travel stress and get into a relaxed state of mind.
After selection of the treatment and note of my personal needs, I was escorted to the deluxe single suite. My cheerful and skilled therapist greeted me warmly at the entrance of the private suite (self contained with Jacuzzi bath and shower area) . She guided me to the pre-treatment ritual of foot bathing, hot towels and some more osmanthus tea and I let myself relax and surrender to the comforting sensation of lukewarm water.
I had chosen the IndoCeane Precious Milk bath as the bathing ritual. My therapist tuned the jacuzzi to my comfort level, set the milk bath, adjusted the music to my preference (the happy relaxation sound) and left me alone for a truly calming experience. I feel twenty minutes is a perfect time for bathing ritual as I always start to get restless in a jacuzzi beyond that.
Now was the time to go for the Collagen smoothing facial that I was looking forward to.
A note on why the collagen facial is super beneficial for women, especially after their 30s. Collagen is a protein that makes up about 25 to 35% of all the proteins in our body. In skin, the collagen protein is found in lower dermis layers and is also responsible for making the skin elastic, firm and, well, pretty! As we get older, body’s ability to produce collagen keeps reducing. Smoking, sun damage and a bad diet dramatically bring down the production too.
Bodhi Spa’s collagen facial starts by getting your skin ready by gentle exfoliation. This helps in thinning the outer layer of the skin and making it open to absorb the collagen. The collagen concentrate is then applied on the face and décolleté. As the application is in the concentrate form, the collagen actually gets absorbed by the skin in comparison to the application of available night cremes in the retail market which claim anti-ageing and wrinkle reducing benefits.
With a gentle massage and mask at the end of the treatment, my face had an instant glow and an even complexion. But the real effect of the treatment was felt after a couple of days when I could feel visible smoothness and evenness in my complexion.
Collagen Smoothing facial is priced at MOP 1380 (~ HKD) on weekdays and MOP 1450 on weekends. The bath experience is priced MOP480 and MOP 510 for weekdays and weekends respectively. This is a decent amount to pay for a facial but the quality of the treatment, ambience and service definitely make up for the value. The staff is well trained and knowledgable which gives you the confidence of being in safe hands at all times. Bodhi Spa Macau is also well known for its “Touch of Ayurvedic Traditions” packages which could also be interesting to try for the next trips.
